Rescue Section

If you’re looking for a hands-on, challenging, and rewarding way to serve your community, our Rescue Section sits at the heart of what we do.
The Rockingham–Kwinana SES Rescue team responds to a wide range of emergencies, providing practical assistance when people need it most. Our volunteers are highly trained in rescue techniques and safety operations, and we work closely with WA Police, DFES, and other emergency services to help protect lives and property.
Rescue is about teamwork, trust, and staying calm under pressure. It’s about stepping forward when others need help — and knowing your training and your team have your back.
What does the Rescue Section do?
Our team is involved in a variety of operational activities, including:
Storm Damage Response
Storms are one of the most common callouts for SES. Our members respond to homes and businesses impacted by severe weather, including damaged roofs, fallen trees, and structural hazards. We conduct temporary repairs — such as installing tarps, securing loose materials, and making damaged areas safe — to prevent further damage and protect property until permanent repairs can be arranged. This is hands-on, practical work that makes an immediate difference to people experiencing stressful situations.
Building Impact Response
When vehicles or machinery collide with buildings or structures, our members attend to stabilise and shore damaged areas. We make scenes safe for occupants, bystanders, and other emergency crews.
Urban Search and Rescue (USAR)
For more complex incidents involving collapsed or unstable structures, our team uses specialised equipment and techniques to search, assess, and assist. This can include responses to structural failures, storm damage, or other major incidents.
Land Search
We support WA Police in searching for missing persons across diverse environments — from suburban neighbourhoods to dense bushland. Our volunteers are trained in navigation, search techniques, communications, and first aid to ensure safe and coordinated operations.
Fire Support
During bushfires and urban fire incidents, we assist with crew transport, including driving buses for firefighter rotations, and provide welfare support to responders and affected community members.
Air Support Operations
Our members provide essential ground support for emergency aircraft, including refilling water bombers during bushfire operations.
Tsunami and Earthquake Response
In large-scale natural disasters, the Rescue Section plays a role in rescue and recovery operations where structures or terrain have been impacted.
