Rescue Section Requirements

When joining rescue all members are acknowledging and agreeing to make any and all reasonable effort to attend training every Wednesday night and be available to attend any and all call outs where possible. Naturally we cannot all be available 24hrs 7days a week due to a number of other commitments in our lives, such as work, family, health, fatigue and maybe even other volunteering responsibilities.

As such members should expect to maintain rescue member status upon meeting what, in comparison to many other volunteer organisations would consider, more relaxed minimum expectations.

All Rescue Members Minimum Expectations: (Exceptions may apply based on reasonable circumstances and agreed upon in writing with the section leader)

50% Continuance Training Attendance.
1 Course per year (Either learning or teaching).
1 Call out per 3 month period or 4 call outs per year.
Reasonable effort to attend community engagement and unit fundraising activities

Reasonable Exceptions to these requirements can include but are not limited to:
Medical leave of absence (for yourself or a family member) (Maximum 3 Months)

Rescue Results Assessment Criteria
Green = Meeting Requirement
Yellow = Expected More
Red = Not meeting Requirement
Results breakdown:
The 2 main quarterly results are Continuance training and callouts - if either of these are in the Red then the overall result is to be listed as RED likewise if either of these 2 are listed in yellow the result will show as yellow
If both of the main categories are listed green then any ONE other category listed in red will result in a yellow overall.

If Both main categories are listed green and any TWO or more other categories are listed as red then the result will also list as red.
How the individual categories are Assessed:
Continuance Training - counted by number of training nights available and number of training nights attended (should be 50% or higher for general members, in the event of an uneven number of available nights the required nights will be counted by rounding DOWN eg 13 nights available means 50% is equal to that of 6.5 nights. In this situation 6 nights are required to qualify for green result for general members.
If the attendance is close (within 2 nights) of the minimum a yellow result will be achieved and anything lower than this will result in a red result.
Training Courses - Whilst the hope is that all members will attend or provide far more, the current requirement for training courses is set at 1 per year. This is to be judged by way of nomination as not all nominations are accepted. With this said I would hope to see multiple nominations with at least 1-2 successful corses completed or provided each year.
Callouts - counted by number of times a “thumbs up” is provided in BART - much like courses, just because you are willing to go on a call out does not mean you will be chosen to go however, with this said I would hope to see multiple “thumbs up” with at least 1-2 Actual callouts attended.

Off Duty Activity - listed in the rescue requirements document as community engagement and fundraising - this is actually judged on attendance of community events and fundraising along with other unit based off duty activity such as ongoing stores support. Recruitment nights and busy bee like activity around the unit grounds.
